Dispensary marketing
Dispensary marketing for licensed retailers
Most dispensary growth comes from a trade area a few miles wide. That changes what marketing looks like: less brand campaign, more local visibility, repeat visits and basket size.
Start with the trade area, not the channel
Before choosing tactics, define the drive-time radius you realistically serve and the competing stores inside it. Every decision after that — which cities to target, how aggressively to price, which categories to promote — follows from that map.
The core stack
- Local search and maps. Accurate hours, categories, photos, menu freshness and a steady flow of reviews. This is the single highest-leverage fix for most stores.
- Directory and menu presence. Buyers comparing two stores pick the one with real photos, current prices and complete information.
- Owned list. Compliant opt-ins at the register and online, then SMS and email for drops, deals and slow days.
- Retargeting the people who already came in. Visitor identification and geofencing turn traffic into an audience instead of a one-time visit.
- Loyalty and basket size. Bundles, tiered discounts and staff education often beat another discount on flower.
What to measure
Track discovery (impressions and calls from maps and directories), conversion (direction requests, menu views, orders), and retention (repeat visit rate, list growth, redemption rate). A campaign that lifts traffic but not repeat visits is a leak, not a win.
Multi-location and new openings
A second location needs its own profile, its own reviews and its own local content — it does not inherit the first store's visibility. Plan the new trade area before opening day, and pair it with dispensary SEO so the store is findable the week it opens.
